BLACK LIVES MATTER
We are living through disheartening times to say the least. Beyond protesting offline and online as well as sharing resources, we’ve have been struggling to find the next steps forward. Finally coming to a decision that feels right, we are proud to share that for the month of June, we will be donating 15% of all of our sales to both the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition in honor of Pride month.
As with many other small businesses and individuals, the COVID19 pandemic has left us stressed and financially worried for the future of our business. We are an investor free, independent label who believes in intersectionality and we realize that right now we are up against an entirely different pandemic. As a latinx woman who has faced racism of my own, I never have and never will stand for racism. Like so, Brinn never has and never will stand for racism. While we wish we could do more financially (nothing feels like enough), we are doing what we can and are proud to support these two causes and the #blacklivesmatter movement.
NAACP Legal Defense Fund:
America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Though litigation, advocacy and public education, NAACP LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities and achieve racial justic in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. NAACP LDF also defends the gains and protections won over the past 75 years of civil rights struggle and works to improve the quality and diversity of judicial and executive appointments.
Black Trans Advocacy Coalition:
Established in 2011, the BTAC is the only national organization led by black trans people to collectively address the inequities faced in the black transgender human experience. BTAC works daily to end discrimination and inequities faced in health, employment, housing and education to improve the lived experience of transgender people. Their work is based in peace building, community education, public policy initiatives, empowerment programs and direct services. BTAC works with communities to foster diversity, inclusion and equality for all people. It’s time for change. To our brothers and sisters of color, we’re sorry it took this long. We stand with you and we don’t plan on sitting back down.
